How to find the right map for you

Köpguide Rotax Max DD2 Kart

Safe purchase

A kart with a Rotax DD2 engine is a safe purchase. Rotax is one of the world's largest engine manufacturers. Rotax manufactures engines for Ski-Doo, Lynx, Sea-Doo, Can-Am, BMW and others.

Rotax is the only karting engine manufacturer that has a factory warranty on its racing engines. This is unique in the industry and speaks volumes for its reliability and manufacturing quality.

How complete is a map?

You always buy a kart from Radne completely ready to drive. We have test started and trimmed details so that your start will be as easy as possible.

There are quite a few accessories that you directly need, but a kart from Radne is usually fully equipped with the right details.

What else do you need?

When you buy your first CRG Rotax DD2 kart, you will also need some accessories to make your day on the track easier.

There are quite a few accessories you need right away, but a kart from Radne is usually fully equipped with the right details.

Carriage

You need a mech cart where there are different models to choose from such as one that you can set up the map on the cart without the help of anyone else. We have carts from different manufacturers that can do that, but the most famous in that segment is the mech cart from Stone.

Gear ratios

Your DD2 kart is a two-speed, so even original your kart works quite well on many tracks. From the factory, the Rotax DD2 engine is equipped with a so-called 35 gear ratio. This is the number of cogs on the front drive in the gearbox. Together these cogs should be 97 cogs so if you have 35 on the front you need 62 on the secondary.

35 is for fast tracks, and then for most tracks 34 is a good gear ratio. For rain driving we recommend 32 gearing.

Here you will find gear ratios for Rotax DD2, you need both a clutch drum and a secondary gear.

Tools

There are many tools that you can buy for a kart, usually you can manage for a while on ordinary tools. But then when you start mapping, you want the right tools. Here is a complete buying guide on tools that you need as a professional mapmaker.

Equipment

You need approved personal equipment to drive on Swedish tracks. We've put together a buying guide for personal equipment with some tips to help you find the right one right away.

Which chassis brand should you choose?

In karting, there are many brands of karts, and quite a few brands are similar to each other as it is only the decal that differs. CRG is one of the biggest and oldest in the industry. It is manufactured in northern Italy in the village of Desenzano.

Tires

The tires on a kart are a consumable and for most people who drive without racing, they last a long time, you can drive once a week for a few months. Once you want to start racing a little, it puts higher demands on performance and normally you consume a set of tires at each race, then you use the slick tires to practice for the next race.

Rotax has its own tire brand called Mojo, which is a German-made tire with very high quality. The rubber compound that is for the DD2 class is called D5 and is a tire that has both long life and good performance.

Rain driving

If you want to be able to drive your kart in wet conditions, you need rain tires. Mojo has a rain tire designed specifically for the Rotax Max series. The rain tires provide a significantly better grip in the rain and are a must.

For the rain tires you need special rims because the rear tires on a Rotax DD2 kart are narrower than the rear tires used for the slicks.

Service

Both the kart and the engine need regular inspection of bolts and wearing parts. If you do that check regularly, it is relatively carefree ownership.

If the engine is a high-revving 2-stroke engine, it needs service at intervals of between 20-50 hours depending on the level of ambition, etc. We usually recommend that you change the piston after about 20-25 hours and then do a major service at 40-50 hours when you change the connecting rod etc.

Service can be done in our workshop which has great knowledge and passion. Or you can contact one of the Authorized Rotax Service Centers that are located around Sweden. You will find a complete list here for Rotax Authorized Service Centers. https://rotaxmaxchallenge.se/ServiceCenter.aspx
