Shift Contact
Product description
The ignition cut-out switch is located at the rear of the Rotax Max DD2 engine and interrupts the ignition when you shift from 1st to 2nd gear
Here's how it should be fitted:
It's important that you measure the distance between the contact and the screw it is to earth against. It should be 1.0 mm - 1.5 mm
[[img@id=;10273;@resolution=;large;]]
It only cuts the ignition once, for a fraction of a millisecond, when it earths against the screw.
If the gap is too small, the ignition will be cut too early, before the spring is compressed, and you won't be able to change gear.
To test the function, you can try locking the gear selector with a 6 mm hex key (see video) in place at the rear of the engine, then slowly engage second gear on the paddle shifter, and you will see the following:
- the spring compresses
- the screw (1) will earth against the screw and cut the ignition
- then the spring compresses fully and the plastic will start to bend.
If you have a larger gap, the plastic will not bend, reducing the risk of it breaking.
